Valerie has served for over 30 years on the board of the Ministry of Caring, an ecumenical organization in her community dedicated to serving poor, homeless, and disadvantaged people. In the fall of 2010, she was honored with their highest award for her dedication and service.

In July, 2015, Valerie was asked to join an official delegation led by the Second Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, to four Asian countries to engage government and civil society partners on issues related to economic empowerment and educational opportunity for women and girls. This delegation included senior level representatives from the State Department’s Office of Global Women’s Issues & Bureau of Education & Cultural Affairs.

In March, 2016, Valerie was the keynote speaker at the 2016 Workshop on “Enhancing Prosperity and Opportunity for Women in Asia-Pacific Region”. The conference was held in Taipei, Taiwan.
